PBB 2014 - Check-In #1 (optional) + Get Stuff Done Week!

Yesterday was supposed to mark the first Check-In for this round of the annual Podfic Big Bang, but I am utterly without home internet, so it had to wait until I could get to a free wi-fi zone.

For those of you who have not started--don't panic! You have plenty of time!

For those of you who have not yet signed up--please do! Sign-ups are still open, and will be until posting time is upon us!

In order to make the monthly check-in more useful to participants, the check-in will be followed by a GSD week. For those of you who are not familiar with GSD, it's an opportunity for you to set a personal goal for the week and hold yourself accountable with daily check-ins. It's a good way to get the ball rolling and interact with fellow participants.

SGA fic chosen (approx 57,00 words), author permission obtained, first half recorded and about halfway edited. I have an someone who will do the cover art, an audiobook m4b version and who has also volunteered to help with the html so my posting might actually work this year and I won't have to ask eosrose for help again.:)

I will not be participating in GSD week as I'm happy with my progress. That said, I do hope to record the last half either this week or next.

- recorded about half (60,000 words) before being forced to abandon the project
- mourned the project
- acquired permission for a different series (the main fic is over the PBB minimum)
- have recorded approx 64.5k (maybe more) of that fic (over half)
- have edited all but the chapter I recorded this morning
- beta listened to first 1/4 of the podfic
- created cover art
Do you intend to participate in GSD week? I don't think so. I have enough done and enough personal motivation to allow me to skip it. I also would like the ability to NOT podfic one day if I want (again, I feel I'm far enough ahead that this is do-able)

You are so on the ball! I'm happy to hear you've found something else to work on in place of the triggery fic. Is this one in one of your primary fandoms? Or is it another nostalgia fic?

It's a Naruto series. Which is actually both nostalgic and primary? Though I only read the series for the first time fairly recently so the fic itself isn't nostalgic at all. I think I've put a ban on nostalgia fic for a while :(

You're doing so well! Though I am supper impressed by your ambition to record something that long. I've seen your work floating around, though, and I'm confident in your ability to meet your goals. ♥

You can post a request for cover art directly to this community and I will reveal the request on September 1st for artists to claim. I'm not much for official match-ups, but I know some artists like a specific date to look at works to claim, so that's why I'm doing it this way.

Since I think you're not alone in your confusion, I will put together an official post where people can also comment with their requests sometime this week. So you can either post your request with your own entry or wait to reply to my mod entry with a request in a comment.

What have you accomplished since signing up?

I printed out several possible favourite fics to take on holiday...and then I discovered that RL was not going to cooperate with me.

Basically, I've turned out to have too many things to do this summer/autumn. Three trips away from home between the end of May and the end of August: one fannish, one family holiday and one friend I haven't seen in ten years, and another friend's asked me to undertake a craft project for them during September! All of which has been (and promises to be) all sorts of fun - but unfortunately the result is that my ME is on the verge of refusing to put up with it all. So reluctantly, I think I'm going to have to drop the idea of podficcing this go-around, and go back to just participating on the art side of things. :(

Don't feel badly. There's always next year. And there are more and more podfic challenges cropping up, so surely you'll find one that fits your interests and schedule!

Now the bad news. I had dental surgery last week. This should not be a problem if everything heals up quickly but there will not be any recording for a least another week. If it looks like I wont make it by next check in - I will let you know.

Ouch! I had my wisdom teeth out a couple months ago and was miserable for about two weeks. I hope you heal up quickly and aren't feeling too awful. And that you have the good drugs. ;)

- Reread the stories I intended to record
- Practiced recording some of them
- Hated everything I recorded
- Decided to use the 35K Bilbo/Thorin fic that I love to bits and have already half-finished
